FLORENCE, S.C. — The City of Florence has been named a Tree City USA by the Arbor Day Foundation for the 45th consecutive year, recognizing its urban forest management program.

Florence meets the program’s four requirements, including an annual community forestry budget of at least $2 per capita. The Tree City USA program is sponsored by the Arbor Day Foundation with the U.S. Forest Service and the National Association of State Foresters. Benefits cited include cleaner air, stormwater management, energy savings and higher property values.

The city also holds an 18-year Arbor Day Foundation Tree City USA Growth Award streak. Less than 15 percent of Tree Cities earned a Growth Award in 2025 for work beyond the four baseline standards.

That canopy focus shows up in public events such as the Oct. 15 Fall Tree Giveaway with Duke Energy, Naturally Outdoors, Keep Florence Beautiful and the South Carolina Forestry Commission at 2519 W. Palmetto Street. Florence sits in the heart of the Pee Dee region and anchors a healthcare-and-logistics economy for eastern South Carolina.

Officials said the designation reflects year-round pruning, planting and education work that feeds into neighborhood quality of life along corridors such as Ebenezer and downtown.
