FLORENCE, S.C. — A dispute that started in a fast-food drive-thru on West Evans Street in Florence, S.C., ended with a man shot in the arm Tuesday night and another man facing an attempted murder charge, according to the Florence Police Department.

Police identified the suspect as Carlton Allen Manning. He is charged with attempted murder, aggravated breach of peace and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.

Officers were sent at about 8:40 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6, to the KFC at 2060 W. Evans St., near Hoffmeyer Road, after a report of gunfire. They found a man in his 50s with a gunshot wound. He was treated at the scene and then taken to a hospital.

Investigators said the two men began arguing while both were in line at the restaurant. According to police and an arrest warrant, Manning picked up his order, pulled into an open lot next to the restaurant and kept arguing with the other driver, who was still waiting on his food. Once that driver had his order, he pulled up beside Manning. Police allege Manning then fired into the vehicle, striking the man once in the right arm, and drove off. The warrant places the shooting on the neighboring U-Haul property.

The case moved quickly after that. Police said members of Manning’s family reached out to investigators, and Manning came back in for questioning before he was taken into custody. The warrant states that, after being read his Miranda rights, he admitted shooting the man in the arm.

Manning is being held at the Florence County Detention Center. A charge is an accusation, and he is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court. Anyone with information about the shooting can contact the Florence Police Department.
